New AIAS President, Meggan Scavio

MEGGAN SCAVIO ANNOUNCED AS PRESIDENT OF THE ACADEMY OF INTERACTIVE ARTS & SCIENCES 

The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS), the leading not-for-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and recognition of the interactive arts, is pleased to announce the appointment of Meggan Scavio by the AIAS Board of Directors to the position of President and CEO beginning August 1st. 

As the AIAS President, Scavio has been tasked in taking the helm of the professional organization that promotes and advances the worldwide interactive entertainment community of more than 35,000 video games industry professionals. She will oversee the AIAS’ many initatives benefiting the video games industry: the D.I.C.E. Summit – the industry’s premier gathering of creative and business leaders, the AIAS member voted D.I.C.E. Awards show, the European-centric D.I.C.E. Europe conference and the AIAS Foundation.

Scavio spent 18 years at UBM, where she most recently held the position of General Manager of GDC Events for the past eight years. During her tenure as General Manager at GDC, she was responsible for overseeing all of GDC’s domestic and international conferences, including: GDC Europe, GDC China, GDC Online, & VRDC. Scavio started off her career at UBM as an Operations Manager and Conference Associate liaison when GDC was held at the San Jose Convention Center.

Summit and Awards show for the past 11 years,” said Meggan Scavio, incoming president, Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. “I’m looking forward to this next adventure and opportunity to really shape and evolve the identity of the AIAS in this next era of video games.” 

“Meggan has deep roots in bringing our industry’s best and brightest together – across discipline and company lines – to share knowledge and celebrate the labor of love that advances the art of gamemaking,” said Min Kim, chairman, Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences and co-founder at Bonfire Studios. “The AIAS Board deeply respects her contributions at the GDC, and we’re looking forward to seeing her at the helm of the AIAS – to continue her story of bringing our industry together. Scavio is a 20+ year resident of San Francisco and enjoys burritos and the ability to walk everywhere. For her first plan of action in Los Angeles, she plans on proving all the naysayers wrong about living without a car in Southern California. She also plans on living near a taqueria.
