The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS), the video game industry’s professional trade organization representing over 30,000 development and creative members, has opened submissions for its 24th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards (#DICEAwards). The D.I.C.E. Awards serve to recognize excellence among peers currently working in games. The award ceremony will be held virtually in March, 2021. An exact date will be announced at a later time. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the D.I.C.E. Summit will not take place in Las Vegas in February of 2021. We are still evaluating our options regarding a future in-person event, a hybrid event, or strictly digital content.
Every year, the D.I.C.E. Awards bestows honors for particular areas of craft in addition to the genre categories that define the year in games. Some highlights include recognition for the best in Art, Animation, Story, Music, Game Design and Game Direction as well as looking at emerging technologies such as Immersive Reality. The ceremony culminates with the Academy’s top honor, Game of the Year (GOTY), which celebrates a single title that stands above every other game released with the strength of its craft, depth and innovation. Previous Game of the Year winners include: Untitled Goose Game (2020), God of War (2019), The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2018), Overwatch (2017), and Fallout 4 (2016).
To be eligible for submission, a game must have been released to the public between January 1st and Dec. 31st, 2020. Deadline for submission to the AIAS is on December 16th at 5 PM PT.
